Ok, ok... I have never seen any of his movies, and don't really like him much as a person, but after the frustration resulting from certain experiences (see previous post) I admit I am drawn to it. Maybe I will just stick to the PBS shows tackling similar problems... unless anyone wants to see it.

I don't think I will be seeing this one, though I think the health care system is definitely screwed up! It needs lots of help. I saw him on Oprah and that was enough for me!
I want to see this, although I am with you, I have never seen any of his other movies. I haven't seen him or heard him on anything...just know him from the UVSC fiasco.
I saw it. I don't know how much you want to trust your leftist commie sister, but blood runs thicker than popcorn. Or so I've heard. It's a PAINFUL movie. It demonstrates how completely broken the system is - you don't need any liberal leanings to go there. I thought a lot about you Nanci, with both Clint and Mason's hospital stays. The beauty of the movie is that if it was just critical of the US Health Care system, Moore would be hung up again as a disgruntled Bush-hating nut. But, he shows how the Canadian, British, and French systems works and by the end you are just wondering... why not here?
I think I will be missing this one too. I guess I have been lucky and have had pretty good experiences with health care and don't really have any arguments against it. But I mostly don't want to see it because I can't stand Michael Moore! I don't understand why a guy who has won an oscar can't take a shower and shave once in awhile.
Also, in reading your sister's comment I'm kind of confused. I've known Canadians that thought their health care system was a joke and that ours was much better. Just different peoples opinions, I guess.

Just arrived in San Diego and turned on NPR in the rental on the way to finding our housing. The lead story was that under 50% of California employers provide their workers with health care. This is one of the big problems with the system - if you can't afford health care (which is what many businesses are saying, not to mention individuals) then you certainly aren't having a good experience. SO many people lack access to that type of security, not to mention the necessity of regular check ups or sustained care. So, we have a burgeoning population that is seeking only Emergency Care - when the problems get too big. But, as the movie demonstrates, even those who have health care are dealing with a for-profit business, who makes more money as they deny claims and put the cost back in the hands of the patient. It is a tough bureacracy to navigate and again, hits the poor among us much harder than those of us with educations and environments that help us to be healthier in the first place. Let me know if you see the movie - I'd be curious to know what types of discussions it brings up for you.

For example: My friend just found out that her 8 month daughter has to wear a helmet for over a year. Her head is misshaped and as time goes on, one side of her face will significantly protrude out more than the other (something about head plates not fitting right). They have insurance but this is NOT covered because it is "cosmetic". So, this young family, just starting out, who pay 12% (or something like that) of every paycheck for insurance, will go into debt over $20,000. The are fighting it for sure but its going to be a long hard fight.
